Plots & the Tool Library — Ashgrove

Ninety plots, one site

Ashgrove sits on a hillside just outside the city, split into ninety plots of different sizes. Some are small — good for trying out growing for the first time. Others are larger, for people who want space to experiment. Each plot is yours to work as you see fit, but you're never alone — we're all part of one allotment, one community, one shared patch of Sheffield.

Joining the waiting list

Demand for plots is high — they don't come free very often. If you'd like to grow with us, get in touch via our contact page and we'll add you to the waiting list. When a plot becomes available, we'll reach out. In the meantime, you're welcome to visit on a work day, meet the members, and get a feel for what Ashgrove is about.

The shared tool library

You don't need to own a shed full of tools. Our communal library — forks, spades, hoes, watering cans, seed trays and more — is there for everyone to borrow. It saves money, saves space, and means you can try a new tool before deciding if it's worth buying. Just sign it out and bring it back when you're done.

Looking after your plot

Plot-holders keep their growing space reasonably maintained — no need for perfection, but a plot that's actively worked and cared for. You'll also take part in the wider life of Ashgrove: work days to keep shared paths tidy, the spring seed swap, help with the tool library and just being there when neighbours need a hand. This is what makes it work.
