Our site
Ashgrove is a community allotment in south Sheffield with ninety individual plots. We're a working patch of the city where local growers of all experience levels — from first-time gardeners to long-time veg enthusiasts — tend their own ground and share the space. If you've got soil under your fingernails or just want to start, there's a place for you here.
Run by volunteers
Ashgrove is entirely volunteer-run. Our members pitch in at monthly work days to maintain the paths, shared facilities and common areas. Everyone with a plot contributes time or takes on a shared responsibility — whether that's watering communal spaces, managing the waiting list or keeping the tool library in order. There's no staff and no management company. We look after our own.
Our committee
A small committee meets four times a year to look after the practical side of running Ashgrove — managing the waiting list, handling site maintenance decisions and dealing with association matters. The committee is made up entirely of plot-holders, and membership is open to anyone with a plot who wants to get involved. If you're interested in taking a turn, just get in touch.
Why we grow together
Sustainable growing
We grow food the way it should be grown — no synthetic chemicals, no shortcuts. It's better for the soil, better for Sheffield and better for what ends up on your table.
Shared resources
Our tool library means you don't need to own everything. Seeds get swapped at the spring seed swap every year, and members share seedlings, advice and spare harvests. Growing doesn't have to be lonely or expensive.
Community first
An allotment isn't just about vegetables. It's about knowing your neighbours, learning from people who've been growing for twenty years, and building something together that lasts. That's what Ashgrove is.
